IAF was established in January 1993, with the main goal of coordinating certification systems across countries. By standardizing the qualification requirements for auditors, training guidelines, and evaluation and certification procedures of quality system certification bodies for each member, IAF maintains consistency in its technical operations, thereby ensuring effective international mutual recognition. IAF includes two major organizations in the world, namely the European Organization for Accreditation and Accreditation (EAC) and the Pacific Organization for Accreditation Cooperation (PAC).
